Quoted cost is as long as there are no problems, blockages or bird nests or is exceptionally dirty. The flue must have standard access to clean it and the flue be a standard two storey height. Extra charges may apply if it is not a standard sweep, is over average annual amount of soot or other repairs are needed (stove fire cement, door rope, firebricks etc)
Siston Chimney Sweep will do their best to keep you informed of any issues if they arise.

2. DAMAGE

In the process of opening your stove, removing baffle plates and sweeping your stove it is possible for damage to occur through no fault of the sweep. We are not responsible for any damage that occurs. We do our best to protect the stove or appliance at all times.

3. PREPARATION

- Open Fires or Stoves to be swept should not be alight on the day of our sweep.
- Please clear all ornaments and items from the fireplace and mantel piece being swept.
- Ensure there is clear space around the fireplace being swept for access to the chimney/appliance.

4. SAFETY ADVICE

For general information any used fireplace, stove or solid fuel boiler needs sweeping at least annually by a professional to ensure it's safe to use and to conform with the requirement of household insurance. Stoves with liners may need sweeping annually to validate the liner guarantee.

7. CERTIFICATES

We provide a Sweeping certificate which proves to your insurance that you are maintaining your fire/stove. A signed dated sweeping Certificate is supplied on completion of the works.

8. ARRIVAL

The appointment time is the time which we hope to arrive, this timescale does not include the time taken to complete your job, so kindly ensure you are available after the stated arrival time to be present for the work. We always aim to achieve the stated arrival time, but on rare occasions a previous job or traffic conditions could delay arrival. Siston Chimney Sweep will always try to phone or text to inform you of any delays. In exceptional circumstances we may have to postpone your appointment (very rare that we do this).

9. COWLS & BIRD GUARDS

The process of sweeping involves sending a brush to the top of the chimney, and relies on the bird guard/cowl being fitted correctly and in good condition. If the bird guard/cowl is a quality item, fitted correctly and in good condition no amount of force that can be exerted by a chimney sweep/brush should be able to dislodge it. However if the bird guard has been degraded by time, worn away/disintegrated by soot or incorrectly installed; Siston Chimney Sweep can take no responsibility for the replacement or repairs, possibly caused if it is dislodged during the process of sweeping. Replacement of worn out, badly fitted or disintegrated cowls are at customer cost.

10. STOVE FIREBRICKS

The utmost care will be taken of your property during a stove sweep, but Siston Chimney Sweep are not responsible for replacement of stove firebricks. Firebricks often crack and break during normal use and do have a limited life span. If they are weak, cracked or damaged at the time of sweeping they are likely to completely break during sweeping. Replacements will be chargeable for parts and labour to fit.

11. POT & COWL FITTING

All roof/outside work is subject to weather conditions on the day - if rain or windy weather we may need to re-book your appointment for another day. Some jobs need 2 operatives, if one is unable to attend on the appointment date we will need to re-book. Standard price is for an average two storey building with straight forward access (ladder access to all parts/sides of the property). If a very tall building or very difficult access there may be extra charges to complete the works. Where possible Siston Chimney Sweep will keep you informed throughout the process.

Note: The utmost care will be taken of your property and roof during a works, but Siston Chimney Sweep are not responsible for replacing breakage of weak/old tiles and tile replacement costs are not included in any roof works
Estimate given. However, if any tiles are damaged during the roof work Siston Chimney Sweep will happily fit them without charge if you have replacement tiles at the time of the work being carried out.

12. SWEEPING WASTE

Soot and debris from the sweep is bagged and placed in your rubbish bin. Due to licensing laws for rubbish disposal we cannot take it away. If you wish to use the soot for your garden please let us know. It is a good fertiliser and also has a liming effect, so wood ash can remedy excessively acidic soils (do not use near acid loving plants like azaleas or potatoes). Humus retains water as it is like a gel, so soot-enriched soil should need watering less often.

13. PAYMENT

Payment due on day of completion either by cash or bank transfer to the following bank account, details as follows:
Account Name: Siston Chimney Sweep

Account number: 18817944

Sort Code: 04-03-33
Please note we do not accept card payments.

14. THE SERVICE OF SWEEPING

Sweeping is an annual maintenance service that all working chimneys need. The chimney sweep can sometimes identify faults or issues with the chimney during the sweeping process. However not all faults or chimney issues can be identified with a sweep. The sweeping process removes the build up of soot from inside the liner/chimney and helps to keep the airways free of the buildup inside a stove. In the case of a chimney having cracks and not being sound, this would be difficult/impossible to identify with a sweep. Identifying leaking issues would require smoke testing or a camera inspection but sometimes even this won't highlight the issue(s). If your chimney is leaking and you smell smoke in an upstairs bedroom during the lighting of a fire, stop the fire as soon as possible. The only solution in this case would be a relining of the chimney.
